This pattern is worked in the round with basic stitches. You can make matching hats for yourself and a child. It is comfortable and easy to wear for everyday use.
Skill Level: Beginner
Size: Adult women and child size heads. (stretchy).
Materials: 6 (US J-10) mm hook, Aran Weight yarn (100 gr. / 133 m.) (8 wpi), scissors, yarn needle.
Stitches Used: Chain: ch
Slip stitch: sl st
Single crochet: sc
Half double crochet: hdc
Double crochet: dc
Gauge: 12 dc and 13 rows = 4 " square.
Note: Hat is worked in the round as circles from the top to bottom.
Instructions
Child Hat
Center ring: ch 3, sl st into first chain to create a ring or you can do a magic ring.
Rnd 1: ch 2, work 12 dc in ring, sl st in the ch2. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: ch 2 and 2 dc in same stitch, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in the ch2. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, 2 dc in next dc *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch2. (36 edc)
Rnd 4: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch2. (48 edc)
Rnd 5: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc *dc in next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch2. (54 edc)
Rnd 6 to 11: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, dc in each dc around, sl st in the ch2. (54 dc)
Rnd 12 to 14: ch 1 and sc in same stitch, sc in each dc around, sl st in the ch1. (54 dc)
Fasten off and weave in loose ends with the yarn needle.
Ear (make 2)
Center ring: ch 3, sl st into first chain to create a ring or you can do a magic ring.
Rnd 1: ch 1, work 10 hdc in ring. Sl st in the ch1. (10 hdc)
Rnd 2: ch 1 and 2 hdc in same stitch, 2 hdc in each hdc around, sl st in the ch1. (20 hdc)
Rnd 3: ch 1 and hdc in same stitch, 2 hdc in next hdc *hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch1. (30 hdc)
Rnd 4: ch 1 and hdc in same stitch, hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc *hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch1. (36 hdc)
Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew the ears to the hat.
Sew
Fold the hat, so that the side with the row end does not stay facing you. Make an edge with the folded border and sew the ears between the rounds 3 and 5 on each side. As you can see in the picture below.
Women Hat
Center ring: ch 3, sl st into first chain to create a ring or you can do a magic ring.
Rnd 1: ch 2, work 12 dc in ring, sl st in the ch2. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: ch 2 and 2 dc in same stitch, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in the ch2. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, 2 dc in next dc *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch2. (36 edc)
Rnd 4: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch2. (48 edc)
Rnd 5: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc *dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc* Repeat from *to* around. Sl st in the ch2. (60 edc)
Rnd 6 to 12: ch 2 and dc in same stitch, dc in each dc around, sl st in the ch2. (60 dc)
Rnd 13 to 15: ch 1 and sc in same stitch, sc in each dc around, sl st in the ch1. (60 dc)
Fasten off and weave in loose ends with the yarn needle.
* Ears and sewing are same as the instructions for the child.
