Easy Crochet Chunky Stripe Cowl (Beginner Friendly)

This chunky stripe cowl is warm, simple, and quick to make. A good project if you want something easy for cold days.

This cowl is made with basic stitches and thick yarn, so it works up fast. It has a soft and cozy feel, and you can wear it every day. You can also make it as a simple handmade gift.


Skill Level: Beginner

Size: 44 cm (17") height and 59 cm (23") circumference. (stretchy). Cowl is approx. 160 grams.

Materials: 15 (US P) mm hook, 2 Skein Super Bulky yarn (100 gr. / 70 m. / 5 wpi),

scissors, yarn needle.

(Yarn Suggestion: You may not find this same yarn but closest is Heartland® Thick & Quick® Yarn from Lion Brand, you can use it as a substitute.)

Stitches Used: Chain (ch), Half double crochet (hdc), Back loop only (blo)


Blo-hdc: Yarn over the hook and insert your hook in the back loop of hdc. Yarn over the hook and pull. You should have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over the hook and draw your yarn through all 3 loops on your hook.



Instructions

Foundation chain: Ch 30

Row 1: Work hdc in third chain from hook and each chain to end, ch 2 and turn. (ch2 + 28 hdc)

Row 2: blo-hdc in each hdc to end, ch 2 and turn. (ch2 + 28 hdc)

Row 3 to 22: Repeat Row 2.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing the edges together to make a circle.
